When a teenage girl dreams of studying abroad, her father’s rejection threatens to derail her plans, forcing her to confront her family’s troubled past and find strength within herself to pursue her dreams.
Synopsis
On a quiet Friday afternoon, diligent high schooler Faith learns she’s been chosen for a prestigious overseas exchange program. Thrilled, she rushes home to share the news, only to find her mother has taken her sister to the doctor. That weekend, at her father’s apartment, Faith cooks dinner and asks him to sign her acceptance papers. He refuses, citing money and favouring her sister. Devastated, Faith flees into the city, riding the subway alone. She daydreams she’s on a game show and wins. When she returns home, she sits with her feelings, then, determined, smooths out the paper and forges her father’s signature.

Vanessa Magic is an award-winning writer/director whose work centers on loneliness and grief, often viewed through an Afrosurrealist lens. Vanessa’s passion is creating stories highlighting Black female protagonists and leaving the viewer learning something new and maybe unexpected. Inspired by her dreams, she is eager to create worlds and narratives untold, unseen and filled with magic.
