Cheryl Foggo, a Calgary-based artist, has dedicated over 30 years to chronicling the lives of African-descent Western Canadians. Her National Film Board documentary John Ware Reclaimed premieres at CIFF on September 24, 2025.

The 30th-anniversary edition of her book Pourin’ Down Rain was recently released. She directed the short film Kicking Up a Fuss: The Charles Daniels Story and wrote the award-winning play John Ware Reimagined, which earned the 2015 Writers Guild of Alberta Award for Drama. In 2017, she was named one of YWCA’s 150 outstanding Calgary women.

Host

Nenritji Suwa is a Canadian filmmaker, writer, and content creator who works across various media, including filmmaking, journalism, and art research. Her work explores black identity, the Black diaspora, and race, often using storytelling to create spaces for reflection and dialogue.

She is an emerging artist whose work has been featured in various media channels and professional platforms.
