CBFF24 – FAQ

The 4th Calgary Black Film Festival (CBFF24) will be held both ONLINE & IN PERSON from May 24 to 28, 2024.

We are using a platform named CineSend which gives viewers a high quality in-home cinematic experience while also providing studio-grade security for our filmmakers. Go to the festival’s online platform (only available on May 24, 7 pm MDT). 

Squadup is Our ticket plaform provider.

GENERAL FAQ

HOW CAN I PURCHASE PASSES OR TICKETS?

We offer an ONLINE ONLY All Access Pass that gives you access to ALL the 2024 Festival ONLINE films. Passes will be available for purchase three weeks before the start of the festival.

(IN PERSON ONLY) Individual tickets can also be bought online or at the door for in person event for a Feature Film or a Short Series (a bundle of short films).

To Buy All Access Pass or Tickets

When you are in the Film Selection section you will see Buy pass or Buy Tickets. By clicking on one of these button it will show you a window where you can purchase your Pass or Tickets.

In the Film Selection section if you click on the title or picture of the film it will give you the option below:

If you click on the title or picture of a Buy Pass button option you will have access at the ONLINE All Access Pass only.

If you click on the title or picture of a Buy Tickets button option you will have access at the ONLINE All Access Pass or In Person ticket purchase.

 

HOW DO I ACCESS THE FILMS?

After your purchase, you will receive a ticket in your mailbox with the link to the festival’s online platform. To access the movies:
– Go to the festival’s online platform (only available on May 24, 7 pm MDT)

-For All Access passes

-In member login put the email address you used to purchase the ticket

– You will be asked to create a password

– Enjoy the Calgary Black Film Festival! 

-For individual films

-You will receive an email with your ticket attached. You can print it or have it on your smart phone to attend your in person screening.

WHEN CAN I WATCH THE FILMS?

The opening film will be streaming on the online platform at 7:00 pm (MDT) on May 24th, 2024. And all of this year’s films will be available to watch on the Festival streaming platform from May 24th at 9:00 pm (MDT) to May 28th, 2024 at 11:59 pm (MDT).

CAN I WATCH FILMS FROM ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD?

All films are available throughout Canada. Short films are available worldwide. Feature films are available in Canada only due to film licensing agreements.

HOW DO I ACCESS CBFF BLACK MARKET?

All CBFF Black Market panels are FREE. In order to participate in CBFF Black Market panels, YOU MUST REGISTER ONLINE. You have to register for each panel you want to join. The schedule will be available on the website three weeks before the start of the festival.

HOW DO I ACCESS SPECIAL EVENTS?

All movies, including the opening and closing films and Being Black in Canada short films are included in the Festival All Access Pass and will be available on the online platform. The CBFF Black Market is free but you will have to register for each panel you would like to attend.

CAN I SHARE MY PASS WITH A FRIEND?

No. Each Pass or film is linked to only one person or IP Address. You can not share it. 

ARE REFUNDS AVAILABLE?

All sales are final. No refunds will be given.

TECHNICAL FAQ – CINESEND

WHAT ARE THE SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS?

You can watch content on PCs running Windows 7+, and Intel-based Macs running OSX 10.12+. You can also watch films on Android tablets and phones using Chrome, and on iPhones and iPads using Safari.

WHAT ARE THE REQUIREMENTS FOR WINDOWS COMPUTERS?

Windows 7, Windows 8.1 or Windows 10.
Supported browsers: Google Chrome, Firefox, Microsoft Edge, Opera. We recommend using the latest version of your browser. Internet Explorer is not supported. 

WHAT ARE THE REQUIREMENTS FOR MAC COMPUTERS?

Mac OSX 10.12 or later.
Supported browsers: Google Chrome, Firefox, Safari, or Opera. We recommend using the latest version of your browser. 

CAN I WATCH CONTENT ON MY IPHONE/IPAD?

Yes, you can watch content using Safari on iOS 11.2 or later. Please note that you must have “Screen Mirroring” turned off for content to play. 

CAN I WATCH CONTENT ON MY ANDROID DEVICE?

Yes, you can watch content using Chrome on Android 6.0 or later. 

CAN I CHROMECAST CONTENT?

You can Chromecast from a Chrome web browser on PC and Mac computers as well as Android devices by selecting the cast button in the bottom right-hand side of the player. 

CAN I AIRPLAY TO MY APPLETV?

You can AirPlay from most browsers if you have Apple TV by selecting the AirPlay button in the bottom right-hand side of the player. 

WHY DOES VIDEO PLAYBACK STALL OR NOT PLAY SMOOTHLY?

We use adaptive bitrate streaming which means the streaming quality will automatically adjust based on your internet speed. If your internet connection is poor or inconsistent you may experience problems during playback. If you’re on wifi, try moving closer to your router. 

WHY DO I SEE A BLACK SCREEN IF I AM WATCHING CONTENT WITH AIRPLAY ON MY TV?

You likely have “Screen Mirroring” turned on in your device settings. Please turn off the screen mirroring setting and start AirPlay by selecting the AirPlay button in the bottom right-hand side of the player.
