Working on a film and tv series can be challenging, and some of these challenges are nowhere close to the actual set. One fascinating aspect of the entertainment industry lies in the marketing team's work of finding target audiences for each project. In many projects, the marketing team's work starts far before the cameras begin rolling.

When a great campaign is created, audiences get drawn into the project. However, what happens if the project does not meet expectations? Or if something out of the ordinary interferes with the marketing plan?

What are the tools used to communicate a film or tv series to the general public?

Every movie or tv series has its target audience, and sometimes, finding them is not an easy task. This panel will discuss how these marketing teams work to create a connection between the audience and the project, sparking people’s curiosity and the desire to follow these unknown adventures.


Leandro Matos - Screenwriter
Leandro Matos is a Latino screenwriter and scripted development executive based in Toronto with over 150 hours of produced content for television and film. Besides his own work, he oversaw the development of a number of projects until their final release.

Leandro has written for big players in the industry such as 20th Century Studios, The Walt Disney Company and Disney Plus. His romantic comedy is available on Netflix worldwide and the Brazilian adaptation of Drunk History helped double the audience for Comedy Central. He has two shows coming out on Disney Plus in 2022 and 2023, and his next feature is scheduled to start production later this year.


Samantha Bryan - Marketing Coordinator, levelFILM
Samantha Bryan is a graduate of York University’s Film Production program and is currently working as the marketing coordinator for levelFILM. Aside from her work as a film marketer, she is an avid writer and filmmaker who strives to create and support stories of marginalized communities and of the Black experience in Canada.
